Our safe water portfolio includes Dispensers for Safe Water and an exciting new intervention, in-line chlorination – both of which are underpinned by evidence that safe water access can reduce child mortality by an astounding 25%. At a cost of $1.50 per person per year, Dispensers for Safe Water provides over 4 million people in rural Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi with free and reliable access to safe water – and we’re expanding to reach more than 9 million people in 2023. In-line chlorination has the potential to dramatically expand the number of people we can reach with life-saving access to safe drinking water by automatically treating communal piped water systems.

Deworm the
World Initiative
Supported by GiveWell every year since 2013 for cost-effective impact. At an average cost of $0.50 per treatment, deworming is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve a child’s health, education, and overall well-being. A recent study by Nobel laureate Michael Kremer and colleagues showed that receiving two to three additional years of deworming increased their income by 13% and consumption by 14% decades after treatment.

Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation
At an estimated $0.50 per child per year in India, iron and folic acid supplementation offers a highly cost-effective way to help curb childhood disability. Rigorous evidence has shown that IFA supplementation halves the risk of anemia in children under 12—the leading cause of childhood disability in India.
