An Amazing Accomplishment – 140 Million Children Targeted for School-Based Deworming in India!

We are so thrilled to have been able to support the launch of the first National Deworming Day in India. A program of the Government of India, the February 10 event in eleven states targeted 140 million children with school-based deworming treatment. We currently support a number of states in India in their implementation of mass school-based deworming, and are thrilled that our advocacy resulted in the national government now leading this effort. It is a huge accomplishment, and testament to the vision for a healthier India that gives all of its children a fair chance.

We went out to schools and Anganwadis in Rajasthan yesterday, on National Deworming Day, to see the activities in action.  Here are some photos. We could not do our work with the support of the many donors and partners we work with worldwide, so a sincere and heartfelt thank you to you all. You make this work possible, and the world a better and brighter place. Enjoy!

World’s Largest Deworming Program in India To Start With Support from Evidence Action

The Deworm the World Initiative of Evidence Action is very pleased to announce that we will be supporting the world's largest school-based deworming effort to date in India. The government of India has made a commitment to a national deworming program that will being on February 10 in ten states in its first phase, with two states to follow later in February. The target number for this massive initial effort is 120 million children treated. It is estimated that there are 241 million children with STH or soil-transmitted helminth in India.

India's commitment which comes on the heels of the Ethiopian government launch of a national program there, will make a significant and very important contribution to the global fight against STH and other parasitic worms. We are thrilled that the the Indian national and state governments are joining in to deworm India on the way to deworm the world!

Evidence Action’s Beta ‘No Lean Season:’ Testing the Path to Scale

Evidence Action Beta is currently pressure testing several evidence-based interventions to determine whether they are suitable for scale-up. One of these projects is 'No Lean Season' - a project to test seasonal income support for the very poorest in Bangladesh during seasonal famine. Part of pressure-testing ‘No Lean Season’ for the potential to scale up to many more people is to understand whether there would be unintended consequences of the intervention. Here is an update on our work.
